Graphite Gallery

When I use graphite to produce my work, I find it both exhilarating and adventurous. As I blend and move the graphite around, the subject moves and flows, shadows ebb and grow, highlights sparkle and shine. I have spent years in graphite work, and I love the final production that pencil work produces. Blending and smoothing the edges not only produces amazing results, the dramatic feel of a 'back-and-white' is unsurpassed. I do not use my pencils to just accomplish 'sketches', as some may feel this is all pencils are good for, but I attempt to create highly detailed and 3D subjects.

In my travels around the art world I discovered and studied the works of both J.D. Hillberry and Mike Sibley and have many tips and tricks to create that awe inspiring final product. Pencil Crayon Gallery

Remember using pencil crayons in school? Well, I do too, however it wasn't until not too long ago that pencil crayons, or colored pencils, started to break out the mold of 'academic' mediums into the 'professional'. They just weren't accepted as having the quality of 'artist' level work. However, many graphic companies have made great strides in this area, giving artists wonderfully pigmented materials to use. Absolutely breath-taking works have been developed and can be seen around the world over.

Wet Medium Gallery

Using wet mediums allows me to break free on the constricting style of a pencil or colored lead. I enjoy the different styles and textures that can be accomplished by using mixed media, such as ink with watercolors and pastels with inks.

Pastel Gallery

MMMMM, I love pastels. Their buttery texture, vivid pigments and their quick style allow me to achieve levels I cannot with other mediums. While special care needs to be used when finishing a work, the finished result is breathtaking. I also have experimented with painting mineral spirits over the pastel, to break down the binder and allow the pigments to be used just like a paint.
